SUBSTITUTE TEACHING LIFE

I remember my first day of substitute teaching in an elementary school🏫. My first thought was, ‘It can be a bit overwhelming,’ but I picked up on the learning📚 environment quickly.

It became second nature🍃 to me and I realized I had a teaching skill already there because I help the youth in my community church organization⛪️.

Adaptability and flexibility are important in the substitute teaching role. Quickly adjusting to different classrooms, subjects📚, and ages exercises my ability for critical-thinking🤔 and problem-solving ideas💭.

I work with students to continue their learning by the curriculum standard of the classroom teacher’s lesson plans📒.

This support allows classroom teachers to take time🕑 off as needed.

Substitute Teachers are qualified professionals working as educational bridges🌉 when classroom teachers are absent.

I enjoy the creativity👩🏾‍🎨 I can bring to the classroom, as well as mentoring students outside of it.

HANDWRITING & CURSIVE

In elementary school, I remember going to the book fair to pick a book, not realizing how rewarding it would be for my childhood and adult life.

Calligraphy

My first calligraphy book inspired me to practice the art of lettering. I enjoyed it so much, and I was inspired to make it a hobby.

Over the years, I have studied calligraphy, as well as hand-lettering and cursive writing, for my professional artwork.

As an artist, I have worked on developing my style and enjoy creating fine art, greeting cards, and calligraphy.

The Classroom

I am excited to see students learning to write in cursive.

Although the practice of cursive faded in most classrooms for a time, it is good to see it making a comeback.

Here is a cursive writing resource website: https://www.education.com/resources/english-language-arts/handwriting/cursive/

REVERNED DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was a minister and activist. He led the American Civil Rights Movement (December 1955 – April 4, 1968) against segregation and for racial equal rights. Dr. King’s speech, ‘I Have a Dream,’ delivered at the March on Washington, is one of his major accomplishments. (https://www.thekingcenter.org)

MLK Unity Walk & Parade

To honor Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I attended my community’s MLK march and parade.

The 21st Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Unity Walk and Parade, hosted by Bethlehem Baptist Church, assembled at the corner of Rock and Thompson Streets.

The procession continued to Sherman Holloway Park for a community celebration.

We gathered around the park for the opening, welcome, prayer, performances, reflection, special remarks, and closure. The MLK youth choir song “Trust in God” and “I Need You to Survive.”

After the celebration, refreshments were served at the Tunner Street Center.

EDUCATIONAL BLOG & CONTENT

Providing informative resources within the community and online is a goal to help teachers, educators, parents, students, and others grow in education.

Education and Roles

There are a number of different roles in the field of education that support learning. Administrative positions, counselors, advisors, teachers, assistants, and all workers that help run schooling responsibilities are important for our young people to grow.

A parent’s/guardian’s decision to school their children in different approaches all provide education for students. Schools, after-school programs, and other programs help with educational resources.

Helpful Resources

Did you know there are helpful resources available for education and learning? The Sara Hightower Regional Library system offers literacy resources, including books, digital learning tools, summer reading challenges, engaging story times, and various media like movies, to its communities.

The Ferst Readers program promotes early childhood literacy to communities for children up to five years.

Connecting with a school district teacher, counselor or advisor for resources is helpful for academic importance.

Some schools offer after-school programs or care. The Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Georgia is an after-school and summer program for young people.

Additional resources are local parenting classes for pregnancy through early childhood care, daycare, pre-schools, tutoring centers, college and career advisors.
